Electric Fence Materials Calculator

Estimate electric-fence materials from property perimeter, gate openings, number of fence strands, post spacing, corners and strain points, tension sections, wire spare allowance, warning-sign spacing and grounding quantity. The result provides approximate fence wire, posts, insulators, tensioners, gate hardware, warning signs and earth-system materials for site planning and quotations.

Fence layout

Enter the measured site values. If the wall/perimeter has openings, subtract them with the gate-opening field.

Planning note: This is a material-estimating tool, not an energizer or legal-compliance calculator. Confirm post spacing, warning-sign rules, earthing, energizer output, lightning protection and separation requirements against the equipment manufacturer and the rules that apply to the installation site.

Estimated materials

How to use it

Turn a site measurement into a preliminary fence material list.

Use the result as a quotation/BOM starting point, then verify the actual fence layout before purchase.

01Measure the perimeterMeasure the actual wall or boundary where fence wire will run. Do not rely only on plot size.
02Subtract openingsEnter the total width of gates or places where the main straight wire run is interrupted.
03Choose the strandsEnter the number of horizontal fence wires planned on each bracket/post.
04Set post spacingUse the spacing that matches the wall condition, bracket strength, wind exposure and system design.
05Count strain pointsCorners, ends and major direction changes normally need stronger strain/termination hardware.
06Allow spare wireExtra wire covers terminations, bends, mistakes and future adjustments.
07Check insulatorsThe estimate assumes one line insulator per strand on each line post, plus termination/strain insulators.
08Plan warningsWarning signs are estimated from the entered spacing; actual spacing must follow local rules.
09Verify earthingEarth rods shown are only the planned quantity entered. Final earthing must match the energizer manufacturer and soil/site conditions.
